May Happenings

May was total madness! It was a super busy month.

I’d like to start off the month by documenting what Hannah’s room and bathroom look like on most days. Not very tidy. But she has started a habit of cleaning everything on Sunday evening to start the week fresh!

Her priorities are facemasks and facetime with friends.
We got a new swing for the backyard. It was one of Jennifer’s mother’s day gifts.
Nathan won this huge tub of cheese balls at church. Jennifer found him on the couch with them after school one day.

We celebrated Hannah’s 13th birthday! We can’t believe we officially have a teenager in the house!

She opened gifts before school
“cute” “aesthetic” “modern” are her favorite words right now.
I had an early meeting in Dallas so I had to get ready before breakfast and do kitchen duty in my work clothes, hence the apron
French toast!
Birthday girl ready for school with her multiple Lulu bags
She had a Oreo ice cream cake!!
Hannah had an end of year party with her MSM small group.
Here is a good picture of Henry’s class during Teacher Appreciation Week
Hannah went to promenade to see Miss Anna before prom. Anna has been a good friend and mentor to Hannah. She is headed to A&M next year so hopefully we can stay in touch!
Nathan had a soccer tournament in Lewisville and we stopped by Soccer etc. After looking at everything he ended up buying a world cup ball.
In between games we ate at a yummy restaurant in downtown Lewisville.
The next day we had a game in the morning then a long break so we went to see Mama Jo for Mother’s Day. She said she was having a “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day” because her internet and TV were out. At least we were able to entertain her for most of the day. We went out to lunch when we got there.
Then we came back to her house and watched a dvd while the boys played the switch. We watched Cruella and Mama Jo really liked it.
Dessert and a movie
The kids had to stay in the kitchen while they were eating snacks
Nathan won his tournament
But the real champions were the moms because it was Mother’s Day!
Nathan showing all the medals he has won with AFC

The next weekend was super busy. Nathan had another tournament, Henry had his AAI baseball playoffs, and Uncle William was graduating from UNT.

We had a Friday night game at 9pm! It was a nice evening and the boys played great and won on Friday evening. But they were wiped out the next day and lost both games on Saturday.
Meanwhile Henry was in the championship game for AAI. We made it all the way to the finals and lost in extra innings. But Henry still got a ring!
Congratulations to the Muckdogs
Henry had a cupcake and a popsicle after the game so he wasn’t too upset.
On Sunday we went to William’s graduation
Congratulations to Uncle William!
Afterwards we went to Nicole’s parents house for a party
We grew some carrots but they were kind of bitter from the heat wave

The next day was a teacher workday so the kids had off of school. Hannah and Lilly went on a shopping spree to celebrate their 13th birthdays together instead of having a party.

They started off with pink drinks at Starbucks and matching outfits!
Then they went to Drybar and got their hair done
Then they had lunch at Maria’s and took a million selfies and tiktok videos
Then they went shopping
And ended the day with smoothie bowls! Their moms had just as much fun as they did. Super blessed to have such great friends!
The boys had field day at Stuard
Hannah made the front page of the yearbook!

The next weekend was busy again. Hannah had her dance recital and then we had Mama Jo’s 90th birthday party so everyone was in town to visit.

The Jones girls came in and Jennifer took them swimming at the Durnils while Hannah was at her dress rehearsal Saturday morning.
Nathan is working on his muscles
The girls were ganging up on Henry
We went to dinner at Cane Rosso before Hannah’s recital
Mama Jo came to watch
The theme was Broadway and the girls did great! Hannah danced in A Chorus Line, Funny Face (en pointe), Victor/Victoria (jazz) and Westside Story.

After the show we took a bunch of pictures with family

Mama Jo decided to strike a pose!
After the show we went out with Rebecca and Jon Michael. We started at Blackland Distillery for drinks and we ended the night at Emporium Pies for dessert.
Mama Jo got a surprise for her birthday!
Hannah was teaching her some dance moves before the party
It was fun to see some old pictures of Mama Jo when she was young
Everybody got to write a note for Mama Jo
It was a fun gathering!
And of course we had birthday cake!
After the party, we went back to Mama Jo’s for a few hours then we went to an FC Dallas game. The game started at 6pm and there was a late May cold front so it was perfect conditions. And the tickets were only $25 and included a $20 voucher to the gift shop! Nathan found the seats early and watched the team warm up.
Nacho, Nacho Man!
The last week of school Nathan had a music performance. Hannah got the chance to catch up with some of her old 5th grade teachers.
Nathan was a surfer and did great!

Next up was the last day of school! The kids had fun with all their friends

Henry had a great year with Mrs. Huckaby
Nathan had his 5th grade clap out. This was his last time to walk down the halls of Stuard. He said he was a little sad but is ready for Middle School.

Hannah and Nathan had an end of year pool party at the same house. They both came home that evening really tired and went to bed early. Henry and Mommy went bowling with friends and played in the arcade.

But the next day, Hannah woke up sick with COVID. Not a fun start to summer!

April Happenings

April was awesome! We had the month off of soccer, and Henry was playing baseball at AAI, so we had a little more free time than normal. We were able to catch up around the house and relax a little.

We played Buildzi – it was fun!
Jennifer went to Mother-Son Nerf Wars at P-Co!
Selfie shot!
This was Nathan’s last year of Mother-Son events at Stuard
Nathan and his buddies
Hannah went to a fun birthday party with friends and they went to an escape room! I don’t think they made it out
They had fun!
Hannah was pretty tired the next day
After Nathan’s last soccer game, we went to Chicken and Pickle and the boys played.
Then Coach handed out some team awards
Nathan got Top Scorer! It was a great first season with AFC
One Sunday after church we went to the Botanic Gardens and had a picnic
We saw the butterflies
Then we walked around the garden and looked at the flowers
And the Big Bugs!
These were a pretty neat exhibit
Siblings caught in the web of love
Tulips!
Two brothers ready to take on the world
Next up it was field trip day to the zoo!
The G.O.A.T.
Nathan had fun with his friends

We decided at the last minute to go down to Devers and Evadale for Easter. It was a quick trip but fun to see everyone and play with cousins. We drove down on Friday and celebrated O’s birthday on Friday evening. On Saturday we went to Evadale and stayed a couple of nights then drove home Monday.

The boys were scheming on how to get the girls back from a couple of years ago when they marked on their face while they were sleeping
Catching up on the porch
These two were inseparable
We went to play golf and Liam offered to be Nathan’s caddie
It was a good day for golf. We had fun!
Meanwhile the rest of the kids stayed home and dyed Easter eggs. There were only a couple of spills
These two were also inseparable
Timer shot with the whole crew!
Next we went over to Evadale and dyed more eggs!
Cousin time – Sam is getting big!
We went running and Nathan and Sam left me in the dust at the final sprint
We went to church and then took some pictures
Then we had lunch and hunted eggs
We had a pretty good game of basketball with the cousins going
Then we went swimming
Sunday evening we had a crawfish boil. Nathan was the only Hubley kid to eat any
It was good!
Sister time!
The following week we had a daddy-daughter date and went to HG Supply. Hannah said it was “aesthetic”
Henry’s teacher Mrs. Huckaby came to watch him play baseball
Hannah got some new dance outfits for her recital.

To wrap up the month, we got a fun surprise when both Nathan and Henry won student of the month. The quality was fairness. We told the teachers thank you for keeping it fair at our house but they told us that it was a total coincidence and each homeroom makes their own choice for student of the month! We were super proud of these boys and got to display the yard signs at home for the last month of school.

Nathan visited the animal shelter with student council
He has a good group of friends
Meanwhile Henry went swimming with Finn
And Hannah had another (!?!) birthday party. They played a fun game of glow in the dark kickball.

That’s it for April. May’s up next.

March Happenings

March was marvelous.

We started off planting our spring garden.

Henry had a “bust the rust” tournament to kick off the season. It was cold!!

Nan was trying to hide from the north wind
We lost both of our pool play games and were the bottom seed going into the bracket. Then we won four straight games on Sunday to win the tournament! We were there really late on Sunday night.
The smile of a champion!
Nathan went with some friends to Andretti in Frisco for a birthday party.

We had a short camping trip planned for Spring Break. Hannah came down with the flu so she stayed home with Jennifer and I took the boys down to Colorado Bend State Park. This was our first time to visit this park.

We had a picnic lunch at the Gorman Falls trailhead parking when we arrived.
The first part of this hike was easy walking through brush and prickly pear on top of the mesa. The weather was perfect.
We made it to Gorman Falls. They were not running very much this time of year.
Then we explored along the river bank for a bit.
Nathan found a nice sized rock for a rest.
Then we climbed up and explored this cave
It didn’t go very far
We saw our first of several armadillos on the way back
Nathan had to go to the restroom so he took off running on the way back as soon as he could see the trailhead. Unfortunately the bathroom was out of toilet paper so he had to wait a little longer.
Next we went down and set up camp
Then we tried to rent kayaks but it was too late so we got some ice cream and played in the river some
We saw this white bass hiding under a rock. Nathan moved the rock and the fish tried to swim off but got stuck in shallow water so Nathan just picked it up with his hands. We thought about eating him for dinner but Nathan decided to throw him back.
Selfie shot
Brothers exploring
Next we went back to camp and had some dinner
Another armadillo
The boys got a soccer game going with some other kids at camp. They played for a long time but finally someone kicked the ball in the river. It was getting dark and too cold to swim so we decided we could not retrieve it. We went to bed assuming the ball was lost. The next morning, the boys saw a fisherman out on a boat and asked him if he had seen a soccer ball. He said yes it was down river and went to retrieve it for them, so we got our ball back! He was really nice and we appreciated it
Campfire vibes
Once it got dark we had smores and watched the international space station come by and then called it a night.

I woke up in the middle of the night with chills and had to add some layers to my sleeping bag. At first I thought I was cold but then I realized I was sleeping in my heavy bag that I never get cold in and realized I had a fever. I took some ibuprofen and laid awake shaking in the tent. Apparently I had contracted the flu from Hannah. It was a long night in the tent.

In the morning we had some breakfast and a little fire to get warm. Then we broke camp and packed up.
Before heading out, we decided to explore the Spicewood Springs trail. It was really beautiful and we had it all to ourselves.
I could see this being a very nice spot in the summer.
We even saw another Armadillo. We started to wonder if there were a bunch of armadillos or the same one was following us!
Customary trailhead picture
On the way out we stopped at the Bend General Store and got burgers for lunch.
The burgers were huge!
Yummy!

Then we drove back home and I went to bed.

We had a big game of Monopoly one day during Spring Break. It was super fun
The weekend at the end of Spring Break Nathan had a soccer tournament in Plano. He wore this headband for a few games until he lost it.
Between games we went to downtown Plano and ate breakfast. We found this “cute” and “aesthetic” shop that served breakfast and was showing the Aggie basketball game on tv. It was perfect!
Then we shopped around a little bit while we waited for the next game.
GG and Jeanine came to watch one of his games
Then we went over to Mama Jo’s after the Saturday game. She found this light up ballerina for Hannah’s room. Mama Jo was more excited than Hannah
The kids gave her a tutorial on how to work her different remotes and streaming services. Unfortunately they are experts
And we helped Mama Jo do some packing for her Ebay business. Nathan and I stayed the night at her house because we had an early 8am game the next morning.
Nathan’s team lost in the finals to a team from Division II in the Dallas Classic League.
Meanwhile baseball season at AAI started in earnest. Here is a good group shot of Henry and his team the Durham Bulls.
Henry had a field trip to the zoo!
He had fun with his buddies
Selfie shot!
Henry got this snake as an early birthday present. He was so excited!
The next weekend was super busy. We had a soccer game then we went to GG’s house for his 90th birthday party. It was fun seeing everyone
Henry climbed the tree with his cousin Tommy
Then later that night we had a 5k glow run.
Mommy and Henry ran the 1k. Henry was really fast and was the first kid his age to finish!
Finishing strong
Nathan finished it in about 23 minutes. There was a group of high school cross country boys, then a big gap, then Nathan, then a big gap to the rest of the field. He did great!
I ran it too but it took me about 27 minutes. I could not keep up with Nathan
The next day we had Henry’s birthday party at P-Co.
Henry had fun. He got the biggest gun because he was the birthday boy.
I helped reload the bullets and served as a human shield for Henry
This is a great picture of the birthday boy!
For Henry’s actual birthday he had star wars pancakes and bacon for breakfast
Then we had lunch with him and brought him Whataburger
Then for dinner we went to the brewery. Henry wanted to sit at the “big desk.” They said it was ok for him to sit at the bar since it was his birthday.
He got a special treat for being the birthday boy!
Here is a great team shot with Coach Skeels!

That’s it for March, April is up next!!
