March Happenings

March was marvelous.

We started off planting our spring garden.

Henry had a “bust the rust” tournament to kick off the season. It was cold!!

Nan was trying to hide from the north wind
We lost both of our pool play games and were the bottom seed going into the bracket. Then we won four straight games on Sunday to win the tournament! We were there really late on Sunday night.
The smile of a champion!
Nathan went with some friends to Andretti in Frisco for a birthday party.

We had a short camping trip planned for Spring Break. Hannah came down with the flu so she stayed home with Jennifer and I took the boys down to Colorado Bend State Park. This was our first time to visit this park.

We had a picnic lunch at the Gorman Falls trailhead parking when we arrived.
The first part of this hike was easy walking through brush and prickly pear on top of the mesa. The weather was perfect.
We made it to Gorman Falls. They were not running very much this time of year.
Then we explored along the river bank for a bit.
Nathan found a nice sized rock for a rest.
Then we climbed up and explored this cave
It didn’t go very far
We saw our first of several armadillos on the way back
Nathan had to go to the restroom so he took off running on the way back as soon as he could see the trailhead. Unfortunately the bathroom was out of toilet paper so he had to wait a little longer.
Next we went down and set up camp
Then we tried to rent kayaks but it was too late so we got some ice cream and played in the river some
We saw this white bass hiding under a rock. Nathan moved the rock and the fish tried to swim off but got stuck in shallow water so Nathan just picked it up with his hands. We thought about eating him for dinner but Nathan decided to throw him back.

Brothers exploring
Next we went back to camp and had some dinner
Another armadillo
The boys got a soccer game going with some other kids at camp. They played for a long time but finally someone kicked the ball in the river. It was getting dark and too cold to swim so we decided we could not retrieve it. We went to bed assuming the ball was lost. The next morning, the boys saw a fisherman out on a boat and asked him if he had seen a soccer ball. He said yes it was down river and went to retrieve it for them, so we got our ball back! He was really nice and we appreciated it
Campfire vibes
Once it got dark we had smores and watched the international space station come by and then called it a night.

I woke up in the middle of the night with chills and had to add some layers to my sleeping bag. At first I thought I was cold but then I realized I was sleeping in my heavy bag that I never get cold in and realized I had a fever. I took some ibuprofen and laid awake shaking in the tent. Apparently I had contracted the flu from Hannah. It was a long night in the tent.

In the morning we had some breakfast and a little fire to get warm. Then we broke camp and packed up.
Before heading out, we decided to explore the Spicewood Springs trail. It was really beautiful and we had it all to ourselves.
I could see this being a very nice spot in the summer.
We even saw another Armadillo. We started to wonder if there were a bunch of armadillos or the same one was following us!
Customary trailhead picture
On the way out we stopped at the Bend General Store and got burgers for lunch.
The burgers were huge!
Yummy!

Then we drove back home and I went to bed.

We had a big game of Monopoly one day during Spring Break. It was super fun
The weekend at the end of Spring Break Nathan had a soccer tournament in Plano. He wore this headband for a few games until he lost it.
Between games we went to downtown Plano and ate breakfast. We found this “cute” and “aesthetic” shop that served breakfast and was showing the Aggie basketball game on tv. It was perfect!
Then we shopped around a little bit while we waited for the next game.
GG and Jeanine came to watch one of his games
Then we went over to Mama Jo’s after the Saturday game. She found this light up ballerina for Hannah’s room. Mama Jo was more excited than Hannah
The kids gave her a tutorial on how to work her different remotes and streaming services. Unfortunately they are experts
And we helped Mama Jo do some packing for her Ebay business. Nathan and I stayed the night at her house because we had an early 8am game the next morning.
Nathan’s team lost in the finals to a team from Division II in the Dallas Classic League.
Meanwhile baseball season at AAI started in earnest. Here is a good group shot of Henry and his team the Durham Bulls.
Henry had a field trip to the zoo!
He had fun with his buddies

Henry got this snake as an early birthday present. He was so excited!
The next weekend was super busy. We had a soccer game then we went to GG’s house for his 90th birthday party. It was fun seeing everyone
Henry climbed the tree with his cousin Tommy
Then later that night we had a 5k glow run.
Mommy and Henry ran the 1k. Henry was really fast and was the first kid his age to finish!
Finishing strong
Nathan finished it in about 23 minutes. There was a group of high school cross country boys, then a big gap, then Nathan, then a big gap to the rest of the field. He did great!
I ran it too but it took me about 27 minutes. I could not keep up with Nathan
The next day we had Henry’s birthday party at P-Co.
Henry had fun. He got the biggest gun because he was the birthday boy.
I helped reload the bullets and served as a human shield for Henry
This is a great picture of the birthday boy!
For Henry’s actual birthday he had star wars pancakes and bacon for breakfast
Then we had lunch with him and brought him Whataburger
Then for dinner we went to the brewery. Henry wanted to sit at the “big desk.” They said it was ok for him to sit at the bar since it was his birthday.
He got a special treat for being the birthday boy!
Here is a great team shot with Coach Skeels!

That’s it for March, April is up next!!
